What does a PDA have to do with discipleship?

PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) are pocket sized computers that come in either the Pocket PC or Palm operating system. I have had several models in both versions. Currently I have both the Treo 650 smartphone and the Palm XT. I prefer the XT because it has a much larger screen and it comes with built in WIFI.

Disciples are students who study the life and teachings of the Master with the intention of following his teachings and example. The focus of this blog is Jesus as the Master.

So what does the PDA have to do with discipleship?

The PDAs are always in our pocket or purse. They help us keep our life organized. The two most popular programs on these gadgets are the calender and contacts list. Other programs are for email and expenses.

Many PDA enthusiasts have also discovered that these pocket sized gadgets make great ebook readers. They most likely do most of their reading on their PDA. Since these PDAs are always with us they encourage us to use our spare moments reading.

We live in a highly mobile environment. We are always on the go. The business of life makes it difficult to maintain any kind of disciplined system of study. The PDA enables us to feed our minds and excercise our obligation to further the Kingdom of God thru email, blogging and creating content for web pages.

PDA disciples of Jesus most likely already have a few versions of the Bible in their pocket on one of these gadgets. Many of these Bibles come with daily reading plans, memorization programs, study notes, the ability to add notes and highlight phrases.

Additional ebooks are available that can be downloaded and read during spare moments of inactivity.
