Discipleship

What is a disciple?

Jesus said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age."

Disciples are students who obey the commands of Jesus.
The first command is to be baptized. If a believer refuses to be baptized, he is not obeying Jesus and he cannot claim to be a disciple.

This blog will focus upon the commands of Jesus. I discovered the following when searching for the commands of Jesus while studying the Gospels".

1. Jesus did not give us very many commands. They are relatively few when compared to the rules that the church has added over the past two centuries.
2. Most of Jesus' commands were of the "thou shalt do" rather than the "thou shalt not do" catagory.
3. The "thou shalt do" commands are more difficult to obey than the "thou shalt not do" commands.

What commands did Jesus give?

This blog will choose a different command for each day. Make this a favorite and check in daily. You will find many of the commands of Jesus to be ignored by today's church. They do not seem to be practical in our current climate. To attempt to obey some of His commands will make you different than the rest of society. You may be ridiculed for attempting to follow some of Jesus' commands. And that is okay. You should expect to stand out from the crowd.  Even your fellow church members will think that you have gone off on some weird tangent. Expect to be looked upon as odd or unusual.

Why choose to follow Jesus rather than the standards of today's world?

Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15)  There will come a time when you will have to choose between obeying the commands of Jesus or following the wisdom of this world. It will come down to who you love the most. If your love for Jesus is strong enough, you will choose to follow Him.

Check in daily

This blog will be up dated daily. Make this a favorite so that you can check in to see one of the commands of Jesus that you can begin to practice in your own life.
